GHANAIAN ACTRESS SET TO BREAK ELLEN DEGENERES’ TWITTER SELFIE RECORD

By Stephen Kwabena Effah

She is not in the influential Oscars league, but the 30-year old award winning Ghanaian actress, Lydia Forson, has launched a challenge to wrestle Hollywood’s Ellen DeGeneres over her all-time twitter selfie.

The star-studded self-portrait, taken by DeGeneres at the just-ended Oscars became the most retweeted picture ever with over 3.3 million retweets and counting. It has so far clocked over 1.8 million favourites.

But Ghana’s film star, who claims to be “sexier than a confident woman,” on Ghana’s 57th Independence Day tweeted her version of Ghana cum Nigeria star-studded selfie hoping to break the record of the American stand-up comedian.

Featured in the picture is Lydia Forson herself, Nigerian stand-up comedian, Julius Agwu, Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Okoro, ‘movie Casanova’ Majid Michel, and Nigerian actor Uti Nwachukwu.

As at 12:40 Friday afternoon, the picture had garnered a mere 45 retweets and nine favourites; raising doubts as to whether she could be able to achieve that feat.

Interesting, the actress’ twitter followers are just 61,500. Perhaps, the 45 retweets (and counting) could help her gain more retweets to break the record of the DeGeneres selfie, which has gone viral and become the talk of the moment on social media and other major international news network across the globe.

This image released by Ellen shows actors, Jared Leto, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Ellen DeGeneres, Bradley Cooper, Peter Nyong’o Jr., Channing Tatum, Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey, Brad Pitt, Lupita Nyong'o and Angelina Jolie.

Ellen’s selfie broke the record of US President Barack Obama who clocked 781,801 retweets four years ago with a picture of him hugging first lady Michele Obama following his victory in the 2012 election.
